Can Scherzer “match the moment” in Game 3 of the World Series?

After 22 years World Series will again be played in Arizona as the Diamondbacks look like a team that has a good chance to take the Commissioner’s Trophy in 2023. It is 1-1 after two games in Texas and the Rangers look lucky as they were down 5-3 in the bottom of the 9th inning in Game 1 and they pulled a miraculous comeback to take that game. In Game 2 there weren’t any doubts as the Diamondbacks won 9-1.

Scherzer doesn’t look good at the moment as he played only 2 games this postseason and has an ERA of 9.45 over 6.2 innings played. Both games were started against the Astros and his numbers weren’t good for that type of player and moment as he should be one of your best pitchers on any roster in the MLB. His play in the World Series isn’t very promising as he has started 3 games in his career and has an ERA of 3.86 and has won only 1 out of 3 starts while playing only 16.1 innings. In each of his World Series starts he has allowed at least 2 runs.

The Diamondbacks are playing very good offensively and on the mound for tonight is probably their best 2023 Postseason pitcher in 25-year-old Brandon Pfaadt who has an ERA of 2.70 over 16.2 innings this Postseason. His worst game was against the Brewers in the WildCard round but in his last three games against the Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies, he has looked great allowing only 2 runs over 14 innings, and looks to continue with his amazing form. He will likely again go for only 4 to 5 innings as most of his games are backed up by strong bullpen play.

Considering all of that I would say that this game has a lot of components that are favoring the Diamondbacks as they are playing great offensively with a strong pitching game and if everything continues Scherzer and the Rangers have a tough task in front of them in Game 3.
