It is still early in the season and this could be an overreaction but the Lakers don’t look good despite a win against the Suns on Thursday. They are at 1-1 at this moment and it is clear that they have several issues but the most glaring one is for sure their 3-point shooting which was clearly on display against the Suns as they scored only 5 threes on 29 attempts (17.2%). No player scores more than one three-pointer and that is for sure a big concern for them if they want to make a big playoff run.
Lebron is past his prime and nobody can expect him to carry another team to the Conference finals or even NBA Finals on his own. Even those Cleveland Cavaliers teams had good shooters around him and this Lakers team doesn’t seem to have those kinds of players. Lebron is still the best player on the team in his 21st season and a clear stat that shows me that his plus/minus was +7 against Denver and +22 against the Suns. Out of starters that was best plus/minus per player on the Lakers in both games. His scoring has gone down with 21 and 22 points in the first two games and that should be a stat that should see most regression every year moving forward.
With Lebron’s scoring down Lakers need players that will score points and I just don’t see scorers on that team except Davis and Russell and between them Lakers need 50 points in the regular season. Davis had problems staying healthy the last few seasons and that is one of the biggest concerns in Laker nation. He needs to play at an MVP level for this team to have a home-court advantage in the playoffs and if they want to have really high championship aspirations.
